New partnership established between Polar Capacity and Sala-Heby Energi
Polar has formed a joint venture with Sala-Heby Energi to expand opportunities for businesses and organizations in the municipalities of Sala and Heby. The partnership is part of ongoing efforts to enable increased electrification, support the expansion of local electricity production, and strengthen resilience for critical community functions by enabling the delivery of ancillary services.
As a first step, the joint venture will establish a battery storage facility in Heby municipality. The initial investment is a large battery park, with the goal of having it operational in early 2025. In addition to storing energy, the battery will balance the load on the power grid by reducing peak demand during times of high electricity consumption — something that is becoming increasingly important as Sweden moves toward electrification and a fossil-free future.
“We have been delivering electricity and district heating for half a century, always with sustainability and long-term thinking in mind. Taking the next step into the future energy system together with Polar Capacity, who can help us find the right solutions, feels very exciting,” says Håkan Carefall, CEO of Sala-Heby Energi AB.
The joint venture aims to invest in several locations within Sala-Heby Energi’s grid area, focusing on where it will provide the greatest societal benefit both locally and nationally. Both storage and supply are being analyzed to understand how needs will change alongside the energy transition and evolving local demands.
“By adding capacity locally in municipalities, we can reduce the need for expensive investments in national and regional grids while also increasing local energy security. We are very proud to collaborate with Sala-Heby Energi, which is already at the forefront of the energy transition,” says Patrik Nilsson, CEO of Polar Capacity AB.
