C4 Energi and Polar Capacity form joint venture
C4 Energi has partnered with Polar to establish large-scale battery storage in Kristianstad and deliver long-term solutions to local power capacity challenges.
The joint venture’s first investment is a 16 MW battery, located next to the Allöverket plant. The battery is expected to be operational by the end of 2024. In addition to storing energy, it will balance the load on the electricity grid by reducing peak demand during periods of high consumption — something increasingly crucial as Sweden transitions toward electrification and a fossil-free energy system.
“It’s impressive and forward-thinking of a local energy company like C4 Energi to take initiatives beyond the traditional to future-proof Kristianstad. We look forward to working together to realize this project, which not only strengthens the local energy supply but also contributes on a national level,” says Patrik Nilsson, CEO of Polar Capacity.
Beyond securing electricity capacity in Kristianstad, C4 Energi is taking a long-term approach. With forecasts indicating that electricity use in Sweden will double by 2045, investments like this are not only necessary but also strategically important.
“We are facing capacity shortages — for example, a zoning plan in central Kristianstad has been put on hold, and several major investments are at risk due to limited electricity availability. Our collaboration with Polar Capacity shows how combining expertise and resources can strengthen the local ability to meet the growing demand for electricity and power capacity,” says Kajsa Hedberg, CEO of C4 Energi.
